Actually, Kent ate all of the Good and Plenty, but nevertheless- this DIY B-day gift is so easy and everyone oohd and aaad over my 5 minutes of easy work! You may have seen some similar ones floating around What you need: candy/ optional gift cards / /

1. Hot glue skewers to the back of each candy box

2. Place foam square in pot

3. Cover square with moss

4. Place largest box in back middle

5. Arrange from there!

So easy!

I'll definitely be remaking this one for Kent on his B-day although I'll be subbing mini bottles for him. :) I also saw one with cigars for a new dad! So many possibilities...

Thanks for letting me share with you today!

Be sure to follow along or keep up with the fun in real-time.

Thanks so much Alison!  This gives me a ton of neat ideas.  You rock!  Thanks for sharing and I hope that you are having a great weekend!

DIY Etched Glass Jars

Friday, June 29, 2012
Happy Weekend...YAY!
How was your week?  Are you doing anything fun this weekend?  Fireworks?? We are celebrating Gracie's 7th birthday party tomorrow and we will have 15 seven year olds at the party so that will be fun and my Mother-in-Law is staying here for 11 days.  So, again, we are busy but having lots of fun!!  I can't believe Andrew is 3 weeks already!!

We have another guest poster today and I just love this post!!  I think you will too!!

Today, we have Kelli, from Living Sweetly!

Hey everyone, I’m Kelli from Living Sweetly! A very special thank you to Bonnie for letting my guest post! Isn’t her blog awesome?! :)

I wanted to share a quick tutorial with you! I love the etched glass look but did NOT want to pay someone to etch a jar that will hold my Q-Tips and cotton balls! I did a little investigating and figured out how to get the same look on my own!

First, decide what type of jar want to etch and what you want to put in it.
I got this jar from Hobby Lobby. It was super discounted because there were a couple of little dings on the lid. I got it for about $1.50. Score!

Make sure the jar is thoroughly cleaned and use your favorite glass cleaner to get off and fingerprints or smudges.

The first thing we’ll do is tape off the area we want painted. I used Frog tape. It seems to work better than regular blue painter’s tape but use whatever works best for you!

I wasn’t too worried about my tape; I just eyeballed it. You could always get a level to make sure everything is nice and straight.

Next, we’ll put the lettering on the jar. I wanted my jar to hold Q-tips. I started with the middle letter of the word to make a sure everything was centered.

My favorite letters to use are the cardstock stickers. They’re thicker so their easier to put on and also to remove.

I used an etching cream from Hobby Lobby and a sponge brush to paint the etching cream on.

{I recommend doing this part outside or in a well ventilated area. This cream is strong!}

Now is the waiting game. There is usually a drying time on the back of the etching cream. I think I just ran to the grocery store and then finished the project after I got back.

After the jar is completely dry, rinse it under some warm water in a stainless steel sink. The cream may stain other types of sinks!

Go ahead and peel off the tape and stickers.

Give the jar one last rinse off and you’re done!

Here’s the finished product! It’s subtle but I think it’s really cute! This project would be great for things like sugar or flour…the writing would really pop!

Thank you again, Bonnie, for letting my guest post!
I’d love for you to come check out what’s going on at Living Sweetly!
I’m on Facebook, too! Come join us!

Thanks Kelli!!  What a great idea!

Have a great weekend!

How to Frame a Mirror

Friday, June 15, 2012
Happy Weekend!!!

We have another guest poster today!

I want you to meet my Mother, Sharon, from Parents of a Dozen!

Thanks Bonnie for having me here today!  I am excited to share this project with your readers.  I just love how they turned out.

I showed you how we organize our bathroom here. Below is one of the pictures I showed, and got some requests to show how we framed our mirror. We have framed several mirrors, shown below. Some of the frames we used mitered corners, and some of the frames we used straight side cuts with square corner pieces. The second way, is WAY EASIER.

The first thing to do, is to choose a casing to use for the frame. We used several different styles and kinds, the easiest to use is the MDF. The wood ones tend to warp, especially in a bathroom.
In this frame we mitered the corners, glued and then used a power nail gun to hold the corners together. We then caulked the corners, touched up the caulk with paint, and then we attached the frame to the mirror, using the method shown below.

Here are pictures with and without the frame.
(We always use Shaklee Basic H to clean the mirrors. It works great, leaves no streaks, is super concentrated, is inexpensive and safe for our family.)

When painting the casing, make sure you either prime, or buy primed boards, then paint them the color of your choice.

It is also important to paint the edge of the back side of the casing, that will be on the inside edge of the mirror, or it will show in the mirror, when it is installed.

These are the corner pieces, that we used for some of the mirrors, which made it easier to install, and I like the way it looks better.

We use double sided sticky tape, to attach the frame or pieces to the mirror. We bought this roll of tape from a garage sale, for 50 cents. I would think you could buy some of this double sided sticky tape in craft stores, or department stores that sell crafts.

Apply the tape, remove the plastic covering, and then apply to the mirror. Make sure you place it in the right spot, because it is not easy to remove.

Repeat for each piece, caulk the adjoining pieces, and touch up with paint, if necessary.
